Beginner · Market 1

Moneyline · Pick the Winner

The simplest bet in basketball. You pick which team will win the game outright.

🎯

How the odds work

Decimal format · lower number = favourite

Example: Lakers 1.85 vs Celtics 2.10

  • Lakers 1.85 — the favourite. Stake RM 100 → win RM 85 profit (returns RM 185 total).
  • Celtics 2.10 — the underdog. Stake RM 100 → win RM 110 profit (returns RM 210 total).
  • Draw is not possible in NBA (overtime settles ties), so it's a two-way market.

💡 Pro Tip

Moneyline is great for close games but pays poorly on heavy favourites. If Lakers are 1.20 to beat a weak opponent, you risk RM 100 to win only RM 20 — that's when Point Spread becomes a smarter market.

Beginner · Market 2

Over / Under · Total Points

You're not picking a winner. You're predicting how many points both teams will score combined.

📊

How totals work

Bet Over or Under the sportsbook's total line

Example: Lakers vs Celtics · Total 220.5

  • Over 220.5 — you win if final combined score is 221 or higher (e.g. Lakers 112 - Celtics 110 = 222).
  • Under 220.5 — you win if combined score is 220 or lower (e.g. Lakers 108 - Celtics 105 = 213).
  • The .5 half point guarantees there's no tie — you always win or lose, never push.

💡 Pro Tip

Watch the pace. Fast teams (Warriors, Kings) push totals up. Defensive teams (Grizzlies, Heat) drag them down. Recent form matters more than season averages.

Intermediate · Market 3

Point Spread · The Favourite Gives Points

The most popular market on 12BET. Even bad-looking matchups become interesting when the spread levels the field.

⚖️

How spreads work

Favourite must win by more than the spread

Example: Lakers -3.5 vs Celtics +3.5 (both at 1.90 odds)

  • Lakers -3.5 — Lakers must win by 4 or more points (100-95 covers, 100-97 does NOT cover).
  • Celtics +3.5 — Celtics either win outright OR lose by 3 or fewer.
  • The -/+ number is the "handicap" — think of it as a virtual head start for the underdog.

💡 Pro Tip

Spreads are usually priced around 1.90/1.90. This gives the sportsbook a small edge (called "juice") but balances the two sides, making it the fairest way to bet on lopsided matchups.

Quarter · Half · Live & Parlay

Where 95% of 12BET's basketball volume happens. This is how the regulars play.

⏱️

Quarter Markets

Every NBA game has 4 quarters. Each quarter has its own independent moneyline, spread and total. Bet Q1 only, or all 4. Perfect for reacting to how the game unfolds.

Volume: ~25% of basketball wagers on 12BET are single-quarter markets.

🏀

Half-Time Markets

Similar to full-game markets but only the first (or second) half counts. Half-time spreads are typically half of the full-game spread — LAL -3.5 full game ≈ LAL -1.5 first half.

Volume: ~17% of NBA wagers on 12BET include half-time markets.

📺

Live Betting

Once the game tips off, odds refresh every few seconds. Bet on the next made basket, react to a hot quarter, or hedge your pre-game bet. See our live betting page for the full experience.

Volume: 95.2% of basketball wagers on 12BET are live.

🎰

Parlay (Multi-Leg)

Combine 2+ selections into a single bet. All must win for you to win — but the odds multiply. 3 selections at 1.90 each = 6.85x potential payout. Higher risk, higher reward.

Tip: Cap at 3 legs. Anything more is a lottery ticket.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

What does "1.85" mean in NBA odds?
1.85 is the decimal odds format. Stake × odds = total return. So RM 100 × 1.85 = RM 185 (which includes your original RM 100 stake, so profit is RM 85).
What's the difference between Moneyline and Spread?
Moneyline = pick the outright winner. Spread = the favourite must win by more than the given margin. Spread creates more balanced odds when one team is much stronger.
Can I bet during a live NBA game?
Yes. Live (in-play) betting is the most popular market on 12BET — 95% of basketball wagers happen live. Odds refresh every few seconds based on the game state.
What happens if the game goes into overtime?
For full-game moneyline, spread and total markets, overtime counts. For half-time or quarter markets, overtime does NOT count — those settle at the end of regulation.
What if I bet Over 220.5 and the final score is exactly 220?
The .5 half point removes the possibility of a tie. If the line is 220.5, Under wins at 220 exactly and Over wins at 221+. There's no "push" (refund).
Do NBA odds include the pre-season or Summer League?
Yes. 12BET offers markets on NBA Pre-Season, Regular Season, Playoffs, and Summer League. However, Summer League markets are smaller since the games are exhibition-level.
